🛰️ About ISRO Internship

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is India's national space agency under the Department of Space. ISRO and its associated centres provide educational and research opportunities to students interested in space science and technology.

The official internship programme includes summer internships, winter internships, long-term internships and curriculum-based projects. Opportunities are offered through different ISRO/Department of Space centres depending on available projects, facilities and the student's academic background.

🔬 Major Research & Internship Areas

Students may get exposure to different areas of space science and technology, depending on the centre and available projects. These may include:

  • Electronics and communication

  • Mechanical engineering

  • Electrical engineering

  • Civil engineering

  • Computer science and information technology

  • Remote sensing and GIS

  • Image processing

  • Microwave and radar technology

  • Astronomy and astrophysics

  • Earth and planetary sciences

  • Atmospheric sciences

  • Physics and chemistry

  • Mathematical modelling and related research areas

🎓 Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

To apply for an ISRO student program, you must meet all the following conditions:

  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.

  • Academic Record: Minimum 60% aggregate or CGPA 6.32 out of 10 across all completed semesters.

  • Eligible Disciplines: B.E. / B.Tech, M.E./ M.Tech, M.Sc.,B.Sc, MCA, Diploma, and Ph.D. scholars in Science or Technology streams.

  • Course Stage Requirements:

    • B.E. / B.Tech /B.Sc : Completed at least 4th–6th semester (or final year for B.Sc / Diploma).

    • M.E. /M.Tech /M.Sc. : Completed at least the 1st semester.

    • Recent Graduates: Candidates who completed their degree within 6 months prior to the application date are also eligible for the internship scheme.

📝 Application Deadlines & Schedule

Windows open periodically across different centers (such as URSC, IIRS, LPSC, and MCF). For instance, application windows like the one for URSC reopen dynamically (such as November 2, 2026, for early 2027 slots).  Applications are processed in cycles across two primary windows each year:

  • Winter/Spring Cycle: Application portal opens mid-year; last date to apply is October 31.

  • Summer Cycle: Last date to apply is March 31.

Note: Selection is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to faculty guide availability and lab capacity.

⏳ Internship Duration

Under the general DoS/ISRO Internship Scheme, the internship duration can be up to 45 days.

ISRO also has a separate Student Project Trainee Scheme with different duration requirements. For example, B.E./B.Tech students who have completed the 6th semester can undertake project work for a minimum of 45 days, while M.E./M.Tech and M.Sc. students who meet the prescribed semester requirements may have longer project durations.

💰 ISRO Internship Stipend

Under the general DoS/ISRO Internship and Student Project Trainee Scheme, interns and project trainees are not eligible for stipend, remuneration or financial assistance.

Accommodation is also not generally provided, although some centres may offer guest-house or hostel facilities subject to availability and applicable charges.
